Prof. Shivaji Sarkar is a combination of a professional journalist and media academician for over 44 years
He was Course Director of English Journalism at Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), New Delhi for over 13 years of his 19 years. He retired from IIMC Delhi recently.
He was also course coordinator for the Distance/Online/Broadcast program of Jamia Millia Islamia University, Delhi, and associated with many universities. He had given IIMC the concept of making it university in 2008 and did many studies. He is in the Board of Studies of many state and central universities.
His research presentation for Vivekanand International Foundation (VIF) on Cross Media Ownership virtually became the base paper for Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRAI).
He is witness to developments in Indian political and economic scenarios for decades. He has many news breaks including the oil finds in the country. He was a Consultant to the Hindusthan Samachar news agency.
His columns on politico-socio-economic issues are regularly read in over 40 newspapers across the country and appreciated for the vision it gives. He also writes in Hindi. He is an expert commentator with All India Radio, Lok Sabha TV, Doordarshan, Gulf News, Voice of America, Deutsche Well Radio, and Indo-Europe News Project of EU. As an editor, his books on the Development of Security of Islands and Coastline and Demonetisation- A Historial Review, was widely appreciated.
He has held key positions in several newspapers including The Financial Express as Senior Editor and chief of national states’ bureau, National Herald, The Pioneer, and redesigned Patriot, and Northern India Patrika.
He is also associated with universities of CRS University, Jind (Haryana), Pondicherry University, Indraprastha University, and Mangalayatan University
He has traveled widely and participated in many international conferences and workshops.
